Friends Kia and Outi who stayed with us in Auckland last summer took us for trip out into the Finnish countryside which was an absolutely fabulous day –saw heaps of trees, lakes, fields, stopped for artisan bred in small cafĂ© and fresh picked strawberries. Spent much of the day at Fiskars, an older town with a rich history and which is still the headquarters of the company that makes the magnificent kitchen and garden tools. Finished with picnic near an old church and it was so nice to see them and spend the day like this.
Bit disconcerting to have only an hour or so of true darkness here at the moment –sun sets about 11pm and rises again about 3 am so light till about midnight and again at about 2 am. Have to really pull curtains well as our room faces east and sun comes straight in about an hour after rising.
